COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (March 17, 2010) – Glimmerglass Opera is casting supernumeraries for the 2010 production of Handel’s Tolomeo, which will run July 18 through August 23 in the company’s Alice Busch Opera Theater.
Supernumerary roles are supporting, non-speaking roles. The company is looking to cast three males, ages 16 to 22. Rehearsals begin Monday, June 7. Glimmerglass Opera supernumeraries receive a one-time honorarium, a complimentary ticket to each 2010 production and gas mileage reimbursement for travel to and from all rehearsals and performances. Glimmerglass Opera’s production of Tolomeo will be the first professionally staged production in the United States. Tolomeo is an opera in three acts which deals with themes of love, loss, revenge and forgiveness. The production will be directed by Chas Rader-Shieber and conducted by Christian Curnyn. Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo will sing the title role. Mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne will sing Elisa and soprano Joélle Harvey will sing the role of Seleuce.Glimmerglass Opera’s 2010 Festival will run from July 9-August 24 and will feature four new productions: Puccini’s Tosca, Copland’s The Tender Land, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the U.S. professionally staged premiere of Handel’s Tolomeo.
