THE GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2015 EVENTS

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (November 25, 2014) – The Glimmerglass Festival announces further information about its 2015 season, which celebrates the Cooperstown-based company’s 40th anniversary. In addition to four mainstage productions, the summer festival presents concerts, lectures, public master classes and more.

GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2015 FESTIVAL

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (July 7, 2014) - The Glimmerglass Festival has announced its 2015 Festival, which will celebrate the company’s 40th anniversary. The 2015 Festival will feature Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Verdi’s Macbeth, Vivaldi’s Cato in Utica and Bernstein’s Candide. The productions will run in repertory in the Alice Busch Opera Theater on Otsego Lake in Cooperstown July 10 through August 23. These mainstage offerings will be complemented by lectures, concerts and other special events.

ERIC OWENS APPOINTED ARTISTIC ADVISORY BOARD CHAIRMAN

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (March 4, 2014) - The Glimmerglass Festival, the Central New York hub for lovers of opera and musical theater, has appointed bass-baritone Eric Owens as chairman of The Glimmerglass Festival Artistic Advisory Board, making him an ex-officio member of the company’s Board of Trustees.

COOPERSTOWN ORGANIZATIONS TO CELEBRATE 10th ANNUAL CABIN FEVER FILM SERIES

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (December 23, 2013) – Fenimore Art Museum, The Glimmerglass Festival and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum present the 10th annual Cabin Fever Film Series, a free film festival, on Fridays in January and February at 7 p.m.

2014 EVENTS ANNOUNCED

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (November 20, 2013) – In 2014, the Central New York opera and musical theater festival will focus on the last 100 years of music, with new mainstage productions of Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, Strauss’ Ariadne in Naxos and Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy. The productions will run in repertory July 11 through August 24, and many of the Festival’s complementary events will explore the music of the last century, including two new public master classes.

LISE LINDSTROM IN FOR CHRISTINE GOERKE AUGUST 11

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (August 8, 2013) – Lise Lindstrom will perform in concert at The Glimmerglass Festival on Sunday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. She replaces Christine Goerke, who has had to withdraw from the engagement for personal reasons.

FESTIVAL BRINGS MUSIC MAN TO OMAN

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (September 27, 2012) -- The Royal Opera House Muscat has invited The Glimmerglass Festival of Cooperstown, N.Y., to present its acclaimed 2012 production of The Music Man in the new theater in Oman, located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. This traveling production of The Music Man comes after the company closed its 2012 summer season with a more than 12 percent increase in ticket revenue over 2011. The Music Man will be presented at the Royal Opera House Muscat on October 9, 10 and 11.

GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL OPENS ARMIDE

(July 19, 2012) – The 2012 Glimmerglass Festival continues with the opening of Jean-Baptiste Lully’s Armide on July 21 at 8 p.m. Set against the backdrop of Muslim-Christian conflict in the Holy Land, this co-production with Toronto’s Opera Atelier features a full corps de ballet. Renowned for early Italian opera, Glimmerglass makes it first foray into French baroque with this 17th century opera.

Cooperstown, N.Y. (June 14, 2012) - The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown has announced two Otsego County Resident Days. County residents who have never attended a Glimmerglass production are eligible to receive $20 tickets to performances of Verdi’s Aida on Saturday, July 7, or Friday, July 13. This offer is also available to county residents who have not been to Glimmerglass in the past four years.

Cooperstown, N.Y. (July 26, 2011) - The role of Glauce in The Glimmerglass Festival’s production of Medea will now be sung by Glimmerglass Young Artist Jessica Stavros. Wendy Bryn Harmer, who has performed the role since Medea opened July 8, has withdrawn from the production due to illness.

(July 7, 2011) - Michael Todd Simpson will sing the role of Escamillo in The Glimmerglass Festival’s production of Carmen beginning July 15, replacing Keith Miller who has withdrawn from the role. The Festival opens with new productions of Bizet’s Carmen and Cherubini’s Medea. Additionally, a double bill of two new operas highlighting American artists features the world-premiere production of A Blizzard On Marblehead Neck, a Glimmerglass-commissioned work by the award-winning team of composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright Tony Kushner, and the professional premiere of John Musto and Mark Campbell’s acclaimed Later the Same Evening. The four operas are joined by Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun.
