The Glimmerglass Festival holds auditions every year for the upcoming summer productions. Young Artists Program auditions are held every year, and we often hold auditions for children and adult choristers.

Principal Flute

The Glimmerglass Festival is a 10-week opera and music theater festival in Cooperstown, New York. Principal scale is $169.55 per service with a guaranteed minimum of 63 services.

Position: Principal Flute (tenure-track position), beginning in the 2016 season.
Audition Date: Friday, June 19, 2015; both preliminary and final rounds will be on the same day.
Location: Hartwick College, 1 Hartwick Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Principal Flute Position Information

Compensation: All amounts listed below are for the 2015 season.
Wages: $169.55/service - guaranteed minimum weekly wage of $898.62, but weekly wage is usually higher.
Number of Services: 60-70
Living Allowance: $38.80/day, paid in bi-weekly amounts in advance, if the winning candidate lives more than 80 miles from Glimmerglass' Alice Busch Opera Theater.
Travel: Up to 2,000 round-trip miles (for one trip), paid at IRS rate to non-local players as above. Musicians living less than 80 miles from Glimmerglass' Alice Busch Opera Theater are paid commuting mileage, at the IRS rate, at the end of each season.
Pension: 4.49% of wages upon gaining tenure.
Season: Season traditionally runs from late June through late August (8-10 weeks).
