CAST CHANGE FOR GLIMMERGLASS FESTIVAL 'CARMEN'

Cooperstown, N.Y. (July 7, 2011) - Michael Todd Simpson will sing the role of Escamillo in The Glimmerglass Festival’s production of Carmen beginning July 15, replacing Keith Miller who has withdrawn from the role. The new Anne Bogart-directed production runs through August 23 in the Alice Busch Opera Theater in Cooperstown, New York.

Cooperstown, N.Y. (Updated July 29, 2011) - The 2011 Glimmerglass Festival, the first under new Artistic & General Director Francesca Zambello, opens July 2. The Festival opens with new productions of Bizet’s Carmen and Cherubini’s Medea. Additionally, a double bill of two new operas highlighting American artists features the world-premiere production of A Blizzard On Marblehead Neck, a Glimmerglass-commissioned work by the award-winning team of composer Jeanine Tesori and playwright Tony Kushner, and the professional premiere of John Musto and Mark Campbell’s acclaimed Later the Same Evening. The four operas are joined by Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun.

The 2012 Festival mainstage productions include Verdi’s Aida, Willson’s The Music Man, Lully’s Armide and Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson’s Lost in the Stars.

$20 TICKETS AVAILABLE FOR OTSEGO COUNTY RESIDENTS

Cooperstown, N.Y. (June 14, 2012) - The Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown has announced two Otsego County Resident Days. County residents who have never attended a Glimmerglass production are eligible to receive $20 tickets to performances of Verdi’s Aida on Saturday, July 7, or Friday, July 13. This offer is also available to county residents who have not been to Glimmerglass in the past four years.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (July 21, 2010) – Glimmerglass Opera has announced the recipients of its 2010 Music Student Rewards Program. Each year, the Music Student Rewards Program awards two tickets to a Festival production to local students who are nominated based on their musical achievements by their high schools. This year, the program has been expanded to offer this opportunity to students in more than 100 schools in the Central New York region.

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (June 15, 2010) – Francesca Zambello, Glimmerglass Opera’s incoming General & Artistic Director, has announced her plans for the Central New York company. Beginning with the 2011 season, Glimmerglass Opera will become The Glimmerglass Festival. The company will continue its tradition of four new fully staged productions, now to include three operas and one piece of American musical theater, performed as intended with full orchestra, large cast and no sound amplification. These four productions will be supplemented by special performances, cabarets, concerts, lectures and symposiums throughout the season.

(April 8, 2010) – On April 15, area residents will have the opportunity to hear two of Glimmerglass Opera’s 2010 Young American Artists perform before they begin their summer residence. The Young American Artists Program is Glimmerglass Opera’s acclaimed apprenticeship for young opera singers. Soprano Eleni Calenos and mezzo-soprano Annie Rosen will sing at The Otesaga Resort Hotel’s 2010 Open House on Thursday, April 15, at 6 p.m. The open house is free and open to the public.

GLIMMERGLASS OPERA TO HONOR JAMES IVORY AT 2010 GALA

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. – Glimmerglass Opera will honor award-winning filmmaker James Ivory at its 2010 Spring Gala on Tuesday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Metropolitan Club, 1 East 60th Street. Themed “Fireworks!,” the gala will feature vocal pyrotechnics by Anthony Roth Costanzo, the countertenor seen as Francis in Ivory’s film, A Soldier’s Daughter Never Cries and featured on the soundtrack of Ivory’s The City of Your Final Destination, set for theatrical release in April.
