Artistic Administration Internships
Work with leading administrators and artists in the industry with an internship in The Glimmerglass Festival's Artistic Administration Department.
Artistic administration internships may also offer the opportunity to perform as a member of The Glimmerglass Festival Chorus, if interested.
Artistic Administration Intern 1 position. May 22 – August 27. Primary duties of the Artistic Administration Intern include coordinating all aspects of the Young Artist auditions, liaising with VIPs and processing ticket requests, acting as the primary contact for the youth opera production team, and assisting with the creation of the daily schedule. Other duties include managing dress rehearsal tickets and backstage lists. Must have the ability to work collaboratively with staff, artists, and visiting VIPs. This position requires a sound sense of judgment, initiative, and the ability to remain composed under pressure. Successful candidates will have an interest in pursuing a career in opera or classical music administration, strong organizational skills, and an ability to work on multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment; knowledge of opera repertoire is a plus. Strong editing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite are a must. This position will include weekends and some evenings. A valid driver’s license and clean record are required. Access to a vehicle is highly recommended.
Artistic Operations Intern 1 position. May 22 – August 29. Primary duties of the Artistic Operations Intern include coordinating all logistics for ancillary and off-site performances, booking VIP travel and accommodations, creating travel itineraries, and assisting in creation of the daily schedule. This position will be responsible for child wrangling and liaising with parents/guardians of the youth chorus. Other duties include assisting with artistic planning, liaising with music staff, and assisting the Manager of Artistic Operations with artist relations duties, including wellness checks and backstage duty. This position requires strong organization skills, an ability to multitask, and an ability to remain composed under pressure. Successful candidates will have an interest in pursuing a career in opera or classical music administration, a sound sense of judgment, and strong computer skills; a knowledge of opera or classical repertoire is a plus. This position will include weekends and some evenings. A valid driver’s license and clean record are required. Access to a vehicle is highly recommended.
Orchestra Operations Intern 2 positions. May 23 – August 30. Primary duties include assisting the Music Operations Manager with rehearsal room and pit set-up, transportation of instruments, and attending all orchestra rehearsals and performances. A background in music is preferred. This position works closely with conductors, orchestra members, and the stage operations team. Successful candidates will be highly organized, reliable, and have strong interpersonal skills. This position requires heavy lifting and some weekends and evenings. A valid driver’s license and clean record are required. Access to a vehicle is highly recommended.
Residence Manager Intern 2 positions. May 18 – August 29. Primary duties include assisting the Young Artists Program Residence Manager in scheduling Young Artist travel and working in conjunction with the Housing & Transportation department to provide transportation for all artists to multiple venues. Successful candidates must be highly organized, reliable, and able to stay positive and calm with a fluctuating schedule and assignments. Proficiency in Word and Excel is a plus. This position will include weekend and some evenings. A valid driver’s license and clean record are required. This is primarily a driving position.
