Stories of refugees, immigrants and natives converge at a coffee shop in Stomping Grounds , a world-premiere hip-hopera. As this contemporary story evolves, we see that we are all connected, whether it’s through the coffee we drink or the ground we stand on. One true question remains: Do we have what it takes to support each other? Written entirely in verse, Stomping Grounds is about defining home in the deepest sense. Its story emerges from a neighborhood, the disruption of sacred land and the fracturing of tradition and history by contemporary realities.
Your grounds, my grounds: everything is sacred.
The development of Stomping Grounds and related public programs were made possible by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
