The title character of Carmen is at once familiar and inscrutable — an outsider who acknowledges no law but her own.
“The house is yours.”
This is the phrase exchanged between the house manager and the stage manager before every show. It indicates to the stage manager that the audience is seated and ready to experience the performance. After a long two years, we are grateful to welcome you back to the theater this summer. The Glimmerglass Festival has always been a home for new and exciting productions of opera and musical theater. Today, the ability of the arts to bring people together and offer a sense of community is more important than ever.

Famed comic playwright Ken Ludwig (Lend Me A Tenor, Crazy for You) has written a brand new opera filled to the brim with rare Rossini masterpieces. All aboard the S.S. Lindoro for a voyage full of high spirits, high notes and a boatload of singers, suitors and a glamorous starlet.

The Passion of Mary Cardwell Dawson is a new play by Sandra Seaton with music contributed by Carlos Simon, celebrating the founder of the historic and groundbreaking National Negro Opera Company and starring Alyson Cambridge.

Kamala Sankaram and Kelley Rourke’s retelling of The Jungle Book takes the stage with a new look at the story of Mowgli, a threatened human cub who seeks refuge from dangers of the jungle with a pack of wolves.
On Trac|< is a short film that looks at the intersection of human existence and machine acceleration in rural America.
