Job Summary: The Advertising, Business, & Group Relations Partner is a dynamic role, central to expanding audience engagement and driving ticket sales for The Glimmerglass Festival. This position offers the exciting opportunity to develop group sales strategies, grow advertising and business partnerships, and expand affinity groups like Young Glimmerglass. As a Festival ambassador, you’ll maintain a deep understanding of the performances, artists, surrounding community, and the Festival’s mission to inspire new audiences. Ideal for a passionate and skilled salesperson, this role is perfect for someone ready to make a meaningful impact in the arts community of Upstate New York. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Drive Group Sales: Build targeted group sales campaigns, cultivating lasting relationships with schools, corporations, tour operators, community organizations, and other group clients to grow diverse audience segments and meet or exceed revenue goals, including coordinating promotional materials with the Communications team.
  • Audience Engagement and Customized Client Experience: Lead efforts to assist prospective audiences in planning their Festival visits, managing all group inquiries, bookings, and ticketing for group clients and affinity groups. Create tailored packages with special discounts, seating arrangements, and unique Festival experiences, providing exceptional customer service from initial inquiry through event follow-up. Act as the onsite liaison to ensure a seamless and memorable experience for all group clients and partners.
  • Advertising Sales: Create, pitch, and sell customized advertising packages across Festival media to support area businesses and meet Festival advertising sales goals.
  • Expand Partnerships: Grow the Business Partners program by attracting new corporate sponsors, focusing on regional travel and accommodations, while fostering current partner relationships.
  • Enhance Affinity Groups: Boost affinity group memberships through events and promotions, especially targeting younger audiences to deepen engagement and ticket sales.
  • Box Office Support and Training: Provide cross-coverage for the Box Office Manager as needed by being fully trained in all Box Office policies and procedures. Assist in training seasonal Box Office staff and apprentices to ensure smooth operations and high-quality service for all patrons.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Monitor and report on advertising sales progress, revenue, group ticket performance, audience demographics, and growth opportunities, providing regular updates and insights to the Director of Communications. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Sales-oriented with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
  • Meticulous attention to detail while managing bookings, creating customized client experiences, and ensuring accuracy in all aspects of group sales, ticketing, and reporting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships with diverse groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficient in CRM software (e.g. Patron Manager, Tessitura), Google Workspace,  and other relevant tools.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, during the Festival season.
  • Knowledge or passion for opera, classical music, or performing arts is highly desirable.

 

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Arts Administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in group sales, advertising sales, or sponsorship development, preferably in the performing arts, cultural events, or entertainment industries.
  • Experience working with non-profit or arts organizations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the local cultural landscape and established relationships with key community and corporate groups is highly desirable.

The Glimmerglass Festival seeks an Assistant Company Manager for its 2025 Summer Festival Season. 

The Company Management Department is responsible for the logistics of housing seasonal staff, and transporting employees who do not have personal vehicles to work-related activities. The Assistant Company Manager reports to the Director of Company Management and works with a  Housing Coordinator, Company Management Supervisors, Housekeeping Staff, and Company Management Apprentices. The Assistant Company Manager will manage the general administration of the Department, including maintaining and updating database information and departmental reports, preparing purchase orders and tracking departmental records, maintaining the company fleet, and coordinating the arrival and departure of seasonal employees. They will assist in the supervision of the departmental staff, inspection of houses prior to occupants’ arrival and again after their departure, and moderation of relevant information during Company Orientations. This position will work almost equally in the office and in the field monitoring houses, vehicles, and company members. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills are highly desired. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and problem-solve quickly and benevolently is essential. Must be willing to abide by Glimmerglass Festival’s current and potential future health & safety policies. Transportation of company members in company vehicles will sometimes be needed. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.

This position runs March 17 to September 19, 2025. $19.00/Hr. Eligible for overtime. Housing provided.

Position Summary

The Assistant Stage Manager is a seasonal employee who, under the guidance of the Production Stage Manager, will assist with the documentation, preparation and prompting of all rehearsals and performances for two summer opera productions. They will also maintain a working score for assigned productions, and other duties related to stage management as assigned.

 

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Attending all rehearsals as needed by the Stage Manager;
  • Generating and maintaining production running paperwork;
  • Assisting with the collection, organization, and running of rehearsal props and costume pieces for the rehearsal room;
  • Setting up rehearsal rooms;
  • Following the score and cueing singers;
  • Assisting the stage manager in running all performances (SL or SR responsibilities, cueing performers, giving calls, handling performance crises, etc.);
  • Checking the setting of scenery, props, and costume pieces onstage;
  • Creating sign-in sheets for cast (including chorus, supers, youth performers);
  • Walking the set and backstage areas to check for safety hazards;
  • Recording and transferring spike marks from the rehearsal room to stage; and
  • Assisting on or stage-managing secondary productions, concerts, or other special events

 

Position Requirements

This position is a good fit for someone who:

  • Has prior experience as an Opera Assistant Stage Manager;
  • Can read music proficiently and is comfortable giving performer and crew cues from a piano/vocal score;
  • Is proficient in the Microsoft and Google Suites, particularly in the use and formatting of tables, and Gmail;
  • Has clear and effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Can work independently and meet deadlines;
  • Shows initiative to seek out information and advance projects with minimal supervision;
  • Can manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy production environment;

Job Summary

The Calling Stage Manager is a seasonal employee who, under the guidance of the Production Stage Manager is responsible for running all rehearsals and calling one of the four summer opera productions. They are also important in facilitating communication amongst many artistic and production departments. The Calling Stage Manager assists in supervising Assistant Stage Managers (ASM) and Stage Management Apprentices, delegating various show responsibilities to them. They may also be assigned a secondary calling assignment or ASM assignment.

 

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Running staging and technical rehearsals;
  • Calling performances of at least one mainstage opera production;
  • Creating, maintaining, and archiving all necessary production paperwork;
  • Assisting in supervising Assistant Stage Managers and Stage Management Apprentices;
  • Communicating all rehearsal scenery, prop, and costume transfer needs for staging rehearsals with the relevant departments;
  • Ensuring that rehearsal facilities are set for music and staging rehearsals;
  • Working with the Director of Artistic Administration, Director of Young Artists Program, and Production Scheduler to generate the daily rehearsal schedule;
  • Running staging rehearsals for the production’s cover cast; and
  • Maintaining all artistic and production values during the production’s performance run.

 

Position Requirements

The Glimmerglass Festival seeks Costume Floor Managers for its 2025 Festival Season. 

The Costume Floor Manager works as a member of a 30 person Costume Shop; they report to the Costume Director, and work alongside another Costume Floor Manager, a Costume Administrator, Drapers, First Hands, Stitchers, Stitcher Apprentices, and Costume Administration and Design Apprentices. The primary goals of the position will include Costume Shop set up, upkeep, and breakdown, creating appropriate Production Books before each Draper’s arrival, facilitating appropriate paperwork, assisting in Designer/Draper/Costume Director communication, reassign and balance employees in Costume Shop and Crafts projects, distribute applicable rehearsal notes to staff, supervise the pulling of rehearsal costumes, managing and purchasing supplies/equipment; coordinating orders with the Costume Administration for the costume shops, facilitate the scheduling of fittings with the Artistic Department, oversee fitting room preparedness, assisting in fittings, assisting in pulling/restocking/organizing inventory in Costume Storage, acting as a direct liaison between Wardrobe and the Costume Shop, on call for dress rehearsals, coordinate and complete Season Costume Archives, and lead Costume space shutdowns at the conclusion of the season. The ability to drive with a clean license, a working knowledge of computers/word/excel/Google Drive, an understanding of costume shop terminology and construction, and general theater knowledge is very helpful to success in this position. Some projects will be worked on independently, while other projects will require working in a group setting. The responsibilities of this position require the employee to be physically present on campus to complete the tasks assigned. Additional training and workshops are provided during the season. This is a seasonal position; employees that work well within the team are often asked to return for subsequent seasons. Commitment to safe work habits and shop practices is essential.

The Glimmerglass Festival seeks a Crafts Manager for its 2025 Summer Festival Season. 

The Crafts Manager works as the Department Manager of a seven person Costume Crafts team; they report to the Costume Director, and lead an Assistant Crafts Manager alongside Crafts Artisans, and Crafts Apprentices. The primary goals of the position will include supervising the Costume Crafts work spaces; managing and purchasing supplies/equipment; coordinating orders with the Costume Administration; leading the setup and breakdown of the Costume Crafts spaces; attending fittings; fitting craft items, shoes, and accessories; clearly communicating fitting information to Artisans and Apprentices; assisting in pulling/restocking/organizing items in Costume storage; and attending tech rehearsals; supervise the pulling of rehearsal costume pieces. A successful candidate will have experience in Costumes with some experience with Fabric Props, have the ability to delegate, communicate  and problem solve in a fast paced environment, as well as experience in and the ability to lead projects involving millinery construction and modification; jewelry construction and modification; leatherwork, stitching, painting, dying; shoe/boot modification; fabric and garment aging. Dedication to safe practices, a team oriented work environment, and the ability to cultivate a positive work environment is required. A working knowledge of computers, word/excel, and Google Drive is recommended. Some projects will be worked on independently, while other projects will require working in a group setting. The responsibilities of this position require the employee to be physically present on campus to complete the tasks assigned. Additional training and workshops may be provided during the season. This is a seasonal position; employees that work well within the team are often asked to return for subsequent seasons. Commitment to safe work habits and shop practices is essential. The Hair & Makeup Supervisor reports to the Hair & Makeup Designer and the Director of Production. The Hair & Makeup Supervisor works as a member of a five person Hair & Makeup crew. They supervise two Hair & Makeup Staff Artists and two Hair & Makeup Apprentices. The primary goals of the position will include leading the set up and breakdown of the Hair & Makeup room, daily maintenance of wigs, application of pre-performance makeup, period/modern hairstyling, backstage quick changes during the running of assigned production, and creation of archive paperwork. A successful candidate will have knowledge working with multiple styles/ethnicities of hair, ventilating, foundation building, show running experience, and management skills. Being able to work in a team oriented environment and fostering a positive work atmosphere is required. Some projects will be worked on independently, while other projects will require working in a group setting. The responsibilities of this position require the employee to be physically present on campus to complete the tasks assigned. Some training opportunities may be available. The Glimmerglass Festival seeks a Safety Manager for its 2025 Summer Festival Season. 

The Safety Manager works as a member of a two-person Safety team; they report to the Director of Production, and work alongside a Safety Staff team member. The primary goals of the position will include updating and presenting safety orientation for all seasonal company members; maintaining first aid inventories, upkeep and organization of designated safety spaces and files, maintain safety contact catalog for hospital/doctor/vendors, update and follow up on Emergency Procedure preparedness, maintain campus compliance with OSHA and government safety regulations including SDS and signage, completing the OSHA 300 form, schedule and orchestrate any safety testing or trainings (fit testing, first aid, etc.), maintain confidential databases and paperwork, taking proactive precautions against safety/heat/hazards, address minor safety concerns and report all others to the Production Manager, being present and controlling the scene of an accident, completing incident reports/procedure, provide transportation to the doctor or hospital as available and appropriate, proactively communicate with Public Health entities to confirm compliance, streamline response, and develop company protocols and procedures, coordinate the company compliance with company and government health guidelines and recommendations, and maintain a safe campus environment for all of the 400+ staff and daily patrons visiting our campus.  

Crucial to the success of the position is working knowledge of the Google Suite, an understanding of workplace safety, and knowledge of where to remain updated for government health guidelines. The Glimmerglass Festival seeks a Wardrobe Manager for its 2025 Festival Season. 

The Wardrobe Manager works as a member of a 10 person Wardrobe crew, reports to the Costume Director, and supervises Assistant Wardrobe Managers, Wardrobe Staff, and Wardrobe Apprentices. The primary goals of the position will include supervising the Wardrobe Crew in the running and changeover of all Costumes for the Festival’s productions, leading the setup of the Wardrobe House, facilitating communication between the Designers and Wardrobe Crew, oversee the upkeep (maintenance, repairs, laundry, etc.) of Costume Pieces, be present for all tech rehearsals and assigned shows, coordinate extra duties with the Costume and Costume Crafts shops, create crew schedules, managing and purchasing supplies/equipment; coordinating orders with the Costume Administration; and maintains Wardrobe budgets. A successful candidate will have knowledge in running costumes backstage in repertory, have experience dealing with quick changes, as well as the ability to cultivate a positive work environment. A working knowledge of computers/word/excel/Google Drive are recommended  The responsibilities of this position require the employee to be physically present on campus to complete the tasks assigned. This position runs June 2 to August 24, 2025. $21.75/Hr. Includes housing and $750.00 in pre-season pay to assist in hiring department staff and cover time for training required by the Festival prior to arrival on campus, and a $200.00 travel reimbursement.
