Stabat Mater

Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater is a meditation on the suffering of a mother—Mary, the mother of Jesus—as she watches her son suffer and die. Its text is taken from a medieval poem, set by a number of composers.

Rising choreographer Jessica Lang directs and choreographs the production, giving life and movement to Mary’s emotional journey.

This one-act is paired with David Lang's the little match girl passion for a unique juxtaposition of 18th and 21st-century musical masterpieces.

This production is made possible by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

This production is sponsored by Patricia Kavanagh and James Grant and received important support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
