Fifty years ago, a passionate community came together in the auditorium of Cooperstown High School with a big dream. From that first magical moment, Glimmerglass has grown into something truly special — a place where artists and audiences gather each summer to share the joy of storytelling through music and theater. Over the years, we’ve brought all kinds of productions to life — from rediscovering the beauty of Baroque opera to breathing new energy into Golden Age musicals and presenting fresh, original works for today’s audiences. But no matter what’s on stage, our focus has always been on the people — the Guest Artists, Resident Artists, Apprentices, and other professionals who bring their talents and hard work to every performance, and the audiences who inspire us to keep reaching for more. What makes Glimmerglass special isn’t just what happens under the lights of the Alice Busch Opera Theater stage. It’s the community we’ve built together — one that values creativity, collaboration, and a love for the arts. As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we look back with gratitude and look ahead with excitement for all the stories still to be told.
