COOPERSTOWN, NY — The Glimmerglass Festival, an internationally renowned opera nonprofit and driving force behind the American opera, theater, and performing arts industries, is proud to announce the company’s 2025 Resident Artists. Members of the 2025 studio come from more than 30 locations across the United States and around the world, including major cultural hubs such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Houston, as well as showcasing international talent from China, South Korea, Malaysia, Canada, and Mexico. This accomplished group of singers, dancers, conductors, pianists, and directors will take the stage in all five mainstage productions, including the Youth Opera.
“Our Resident Artists are the heart and soul of the Glimmerglass experience,” remarks Artistic & General Director Rob Ainsley. “Their strength lies in the diversity of their backgrounds and talents, resulting in one of the most cohesive and skilled ensembles in the country. Through a rigorous audition process and the unique balance of different disciplines represented on our roster, they grow into an artistic family of unmatched versatility each summer.”
As the Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 and sets its sights on the future, the internationally acclaimed mentorship program will now be known as the Resident Artists Program (formerly the Young Artists Program). “Equally adept at bringing to life big box office musicals, grand operas, intimate baroque chamber pieces, and cutting-edge contemporary works, Glimmerglass Resident Artists unfailingly showcase the highest theatrical standards. It is fitting that we mark our 50th anniversary season with a new program name that accurately reflects their role as the Festival’s resident ensemble and how foundational their talents are to our work,” said Ainsley.
Established in 1988, the Resident Artists Program is essential to the Festival’s mission to promote an artistically stimulating environment for emerging artists. For nearly 40 years, the program has provided training and performance experience for talented artists in the early stages of their professional careers. The program accepts opera singers, musical theater singers/dancers, pianists/coaches, conductors, and stage directors and focuses on education through performance. “I am thrilled to welcome this exceptional group of artists to our season,” shared Andrea Grant, Director of the Resident Artists Program. “The Resident Artists are integral to our artistic community, and this program provides unparalleled opportunities to develop their craft. Through mainstage performances, ensemble work, and role covers, they gain invaluable experience in a professional setting of the highest caliber. Just as importantly, they work closely with internationally renowned designers, directors, conductors, and performers. There is no substitute for the wisdom gained from this mentorship setting. It will shape their careers,” continued Grant.
In addition to performance opportunities, Resident Artists receive musical coaching, attend classes in diction and acting, and are given instruction in audition techniques, role preparation, and the business aspects of managing a career. Starting in 2011 with soprano Deborah Voigt, program members have worked each season with world-renowned artists who join the Festival as Artist-in-Residence. Past Glimmerglass Artists-in-Residence include William Burden, John Corigliano (Composer-in-Residence), Anthony Roth Constanzo, Tara Erraught, Christine Goerke, Denyce Graves, Julie and Nathan Gunn, Isabel Leonard, Jay Hunter Morris, Eric Owens, and Kamala Sankaram (Composer-in-Residence).
The 2025 Artists-in-Residence are bass-baritone Greer Grimsley and mezzo-soprano Luretta Bybee. Celebrated for his commanding presence, Grimsley is one of our time’s most prominent Wagnerian singers. A highly sought-after educator, clinician, and competition judge, Bybee is known for her remarkable range and dynamic versatility. She serves on the voice faculty at Loyola University’s College of Music and Fine Arts. Grimsley and Bybee will mentor members of the 2025 Glimmerglass Resident Artists Program, helping them hone their presence and authenticity on stage. In addition to providing mentorship for the Resident Artists, Grimsley and Bybee will appear in Tosca and Sunday in the Park with George, respectively. As the culmination of their residency, Grimsley and Bybee will curate the Becoming concert on August 14 with Resident Artists.

About the 2025 Season
The 2025 Glimmerglass Festival celebrates the performers, dreamers, and creators whose alchemy takes our breath away with a season showcasing “The Art of Making Art.” Mainstage productions include Puccini, Illica & Giacosa’s Tosca, Sondheim & Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George, and Stravinsky, Auden & Kallman’s The Rake’s Progress. The season will also feature the world premiere of The House on Mango Street, based on the classic novel, with a libretto by renowned and celebrated author Sandra Cisneros and a score by GRAMMY-nominee Derek Bermel. The Festival will also feature the youth opera, Odyssey, by Ben Moore and Kelley Rourke, in the Alice Busch Opera Theater for the first time and a one-night-only performance by Broadway legend Bernadette Peters. As a part of the Project Pipeline initiative, Derek Bermel & Sandra Cisneros will present the Pipeline Talk: From Page to Stage, an insightful conversation about creating The House on Mango Street.
