The Glimmerglass Festival held its annual 2014 Spring Gala, GL!MMERATA, on April 10 at the Metropolitan Club. Hosted by Artistic & General Director Francesca Zambello, with Gala Chairs Patricia Chadwick and Nina Lesavoy, the event set a record, netting $600,000 in support of the Young Artists and Summer Internship programs.
The 350 guests enjoyed cocktails, a performance, dinner and a short auction, followed by dessert and dancing to the Peter Duchin Orchestra. Young Glimmerglass, the company’s young professional’s group, joined the dance floor after celebrating at a member host’s home.
Bass-baritone Eric Owens served as master of ceremonies for the musical performance that took place after cocktail hour. Glimmerglass artists performed, including Aleksey Bogdanov, Jacqueline Echols, Yunah Lee, Beth Lytwynec and Patrick O’Halloran and David Pittsinger. The evening’s auction included a private concert in the winner’s home from Eric Owens. Two guests were in a heated competition to win this, causing Owens to offer it to both, resulting in $40,000 raised for the cause.
The Young Artists Program is an apprentice program for emerging singers, coach/accompanists, dancers, conductors and directors. This year the company received more than 1,400 applications for the 48 positions. The highly competitive Summer Internship Program offers close to 60 internships in production and administration.
A big thank you to: Amica Insurance for its generous sponsorship of the evening’s artists, and media sponsor Gotham Magazine, and the table hosts and attendees who so generously helped make the gala a success.
