When Francesca Zambello joined The Glimmerglass Festival in 2010 as Artistic & General Director, it became her mission for the company to involve more youth directly in the arts by having them participate onstage. The Glimmerglass Festival has had more children on stage in our performances than ever, and, this summer, the company will host Broadway Dreams, a premiere performing arts training program.
The Broadway Dreams Foundation and its faculty of Broadway professionals, casting directors, choreographers and agents will be in residence in Cooperstown, New York, August 15-18, 2014, to offer a training intensive that celebrates traditional musical theater, exploring the classics such as Carousel, South Pacific and The Pirates of Penzance. The program will culminate in a performance on our stage in the Festival’s Alice Busch Opera Theater. These intensives offer first-rate training in acting, dance and vocal performance by Broadway veterans.
Normally reserved for larger cities, this program is making its way to Central New York at The Glimmerglass Festival, offering a wonderful experience for our local youth. Attendees for the program are selected through an audition process – either live or through a video submission. Intensives are open to anyone, any age, though accommodations are not provided. Also, financial need-based scholarships are available.
