The Glimmerglass Festival continues its tradition of excellence this year not only in the Alice Busch Opera Theater but within the Mohawk Valley community. Since 2018, patron and former family court judge Hon. Joan Shkane has worked with local school districts to bring underserved students to Glimmerglass productions, as well as help organize educational workshops for the students at their schools and on the Glimmerglass campus.

Her work continues to have an impact this summer, more than 50 students will attend The Glimmerglass Festival thanks to the efforts of Joan Shkane and others who help to support her.

When asked what she loves about her work, Joan replied, “There are different kids every year, and each year they show amazing enthusiasm and come to love the opera like I do. And Glimmerglass makes them feel at home which is very special.”

Students have remarked that their experience was “incredibly eye opening” with one saying, “After, you feel different. I understand the past and what has changed.”
