The 2027 Festival opens with a new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods, directed by Glimmerglass Artistic Associate Eric Sean Fogel and conducted by internationally renowned musical theater veteran David Charles Abell. Audiences will remember Fogel’s “theatrically dazzling” (Bachtrack), “devilishly perfect” (Albany Times Union) 2025 take on The Rake’s Progress, which awed with its dynamic choreography and virtuosic ensemble work. A modern musical fairy tale exploring the consequences of our wishes and our responsibilities to one another, Into the Woods is brought to life by Festival favorites, including sets by James Rotondo, costumes by Lynly Saunders, and lighting by Robert Wierzel.
